Ultrasonically Welded Inserts

When your plastic part needs to interface with metal components (like threaded inserts), we utilize ultrasonic welding to seat them with surgical precision.

Good vibrations

When plastic components require robust, reusable threaded connections, cold-pressing inserts often fall short in torque and pull-out resistance. Manterra utilizes precision ultrasonic welding to embed brass or steel inserts into our molded parts.

During this secondary operation, high-frequency ultrasonic vibrations are applied to the insert, causing the surrounding plastic to melt and flow into the knurls and undercuts of the metal. Upon rapid cooling, the plastic encapsulates the insert, creating a highly durable fastening point. Our engineering team designs the molded “bosses” with the precise hole diameters and lead-in angles required to prevent boss cracking and maximize insert strength.
